PM: Situation on Russian labor market better than in 2008–2009
ST. PETERSBURG, Mar 25 (PRIME) -- The current situation on the Russian labor market is better than in 2008–2009, the number of unemployed people fell to about 5.5% in 2015 from 9% in the previous economic crisis, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at a forum of the ruling political party United Russia on Friday.
“I have said that we had taken over the control of the labor market firmly. It is really so. Eventually, the situation looks better than during the first wave of crisis in 2008–2009,” he said.
In 2015, the authorities provided almost 4 billion rubles to 18 out of 85 Russian regions to improve the situation on the labor market, Medvedev said.
He also added that the Russian economy is adjusting to sanctions and oil price fluctuations, but it is difficult for citizens to get used to lower incomes.
